On June 15, 2026, the police increased their efforts to stop illegal immigration. They arrested more than 2,500 foreign nationals who were in the country without proper documents during a week-long nationwide operation.
In addition, over 15,000 other people were arrested for different crimes as Operation Shanela continues across the country.
Vincent Mukhathi, the police spokesperson, said that they also stopped cocaine shipments at Durban harbor.
He explained that law enforcement agencies made a big blow to organized drug trafficking networks. They intercepted 30 bricks of cocaine at the Port of Durban. This seizure happened after they had already found 90 kilograms of cocaine hidden in trucks coming from Brazil at the same port, just three days earlier.
