North Korea Condemns U.S. Strikes on Iran, Labels Them a “Grave Violation of Sovereignty”

Pyongyang, June 24 — North Korea has sharply condemned the United States for its recent military strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, calling the action a “grave violation of a sovereign nation’s territorial and security rights.” The condemnation was issued Monday via state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), quoting the country’s foreign ministry.

The statement accuses both the U.S. and Israel of fueling regional instability in the Middle East, stating that the tension is a result of “Jerusalem’s ceaseless war moves and territorial expansion, accepted and encouraged by the West.”

“The reckless U.S. airstrikes are a dangerous act of aggression aimed at undermining the sovereignty and development of Iran,” the North Korean foreign ministry declared. “We strongly support Iran’s right to self-defense.”

Iran Vows “Severe Response”

Iran’s government has described the attacks as “an act of war,” with Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian stating that “Iran reserves the right to respond at a time and place of its choosing.” Unconfirmed reports from Iranian media suggest increased military readiness along key borders and strategic installations.

The strikes, which targeted Iranian nuclear enrichment infrastructure and suspected underground facilities, were described by Washington as “preventive measures” to curb Tehran’s nuclear ambitions.

Washington Justifies the Strikes

The U.S. Department of Defense stated that the operation was aimed at “disabling critical components of Iran’s nuclear development sites that pose an imminent threat to regional and global security.” Pentagon officials emphasized that the action was limited in scope and not intended to provoke broader conflict.

However, Iran, North Korea, Russia, and China have all condemned the move as a clear breach of international norms.

Expert Analysis: Polarization Intensifies

Dr. Lena Takamura, a political analyst at the East Asia Strategic Institute, warned that North Korea’s alignment with Iran marks a growing trend of strategic solidarity among nations opposing U.S. influence.

“This is part of a broader geopolitical realignment,” said Dr. Takamura. “Pyongyang is using this opportunity to project itself as a defender of sovereignty and to strengthen ties with Tehran, Beijing, and Moscow—potentially forming a new bloc in global politics.”

In Moscow, the Russian Foreign Ministry also denounced the U.S. strikes, urging all parties to avoid escalatory measures.

UN Reaction and Calls for Emergency Session

In New York, UN Secretary-General António Guterres expressed deep concern over the situation. A spokesperson confirmed that an emergency session of the UN Security Council is being considered to address the potential threat to international peace and stability.

“We urge restraint from all parties and call for a return to dialogue,” the UN said in a brief statement.

Some UN member states are already lobbying for a resolution condemning the strikes, though any such action may face vetoes from permanent Security Council members.

Oil prices surged by over 7% in the immediate aftermath of the strikes, with traders fearing that any escalation in the Persian Gulf could disrupt global energy supplies. Stock markets across Asia and Europe opened lower amid the uncertainty.

With Iran threatening retaliation, U.S. forces on alert across the Middle East, and North Korea stirring the diplomatic pot, the international community faces a critical inflection point. The days ahead will likely determine whether this is a contained confrontation—or the opening of a far wider conflict.
