Two individuals accused of participating in a robbery at the Teba offices appeared before Principal Magistrate Fikile Nhlabatsi this week to answer to multiple charges arising from the incident.
The accused, identified as Sambulo Shabangu and Teba employee Gugu Mnisi, face a total of 11 counts of robbery linked to an alleged heist that occurred on March 2. According to court proceedings, the robbery reportedly resulted in the theft of more than E120,000 from the company’s premises.
Prosecutors allege that the suspects were involved in the planning and execution of the robbery, which targeted funds belonging to the organisation. The details surrounding the alleged offence are expected to emerge as the case progresses through the courts.
During their appearance, the matter could not proceed to a full hearing and was subsequently postponed. The court granted the postponement to allow for the appearance of legal counsel representing Shabangu, ensuring that the accused receives adequate legal representation before the case moves forward.
Principal Magistrate Nhlabatsi ordered that both accused persons remain in custody pending the next court appearance. The pair were remanded until June 4, when the matter is expected to return to court for further proceedings.
The case has attracted public interest due to the substantial amount of money allegedly stolen and the involvement of an employee of the institution. Investigators are continuing their work as the prosecution prepares to present its case.
It is important to note that both accused persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The charges against them remain allegations at this stage, and the court will determine their guilt or innocence based on the evidence presented during the trial process.
The matter resumes on June 4.
